Invisable Post?

This is strange, I posted some photos of the CupLee sample I got. The post is here, I made sure it said "post to menstrual_cups" : http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/2591146.html#cutid1

But when I go to the menstrual_cups community home page, its not there... ?

You mean from menstrualcups.org? I'm having the same problem (and another, more recent post from menstrual_cups isn't showing up, either). Unfortunately, I don't know how to do anything with the domain... scien, any thoughts?

What a shame

I found this site crammed full of useful information however I feel very alienated about all the references to gender issues ie not assuming all users prefer the term feminine etc. I truly appreciate and have no issues with people who are gay, transgender or whatever. But I don't feel comfortable or welcome as a female woman, mostly hetero, overweight, with hip replacements. What a shame. :-(

Re: What a shame

If you have witnessed or experienced any cases of discrimination against heterosexuals, overweight people, or people with hip replacements, please point them out to us. We do want all to feel welcome here, and will work to make sure that this is the case. (Unless what you're angling for is a change to the gender neutrality policy, which is not going to happen.)

i posted a comment with a link to the comparison photos and it said it's screened, but all i see is an empty box. with your own screened comments, you should be able to see and delete them... and link-less comments are fine so it seems like lj just ate it... or is it some feature against spam or something :S

Size Charts Post

I tried to edit the size charts post at http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/1285963.html to correct a spelling error and to add a cup I'd missed in one of the charts. When I hit SAVE ENTRY, it gave me an error that my post is too big. =8oO

Is that true? Or did I run into a gremlin?

I think it's a gremlin. I deleted one of the charts to make it smaller and it still comes up as "Post too large."

Hi,
Every time I try and post a comment it gives me a error message that I am not a member of the community or that I have to post my username. I have done both and it then it just defaults to I have not posted my username and will not allow me to post comments. What am I doing wrong?

Hi inspireradiance. It looks like you haven't actually joined the community. When you look at the community main page, there should be a link at the top that says "Join this community" - click on that and it will walk you through the process.

Cups

Ok, well I really want to try menstrual cups instead of pads and tampons; but I'm worried about telling my mom. I don't know what I should say or do or anything?

Another question is: How do you actually put the cup in? Unlike a tampon there is no applicator so do you fold it then unfold it? I'm kind of clueless, sorry.

Re: Cups

Hi! This is just for talking about the community :) You can post to the community itself to ask the questions you have. I also encourage you to check out the tags, especially the Cup use and age tag, which will have some good info about talking to your mom, and the insertion tag, which should clear up confusion about how you get it in there!

i got a possibly weird idea... since every now and then there are questions like "what problems have you experienced with brand X?" and sometimes it might be easier to choose by figuring out what NOT to get... how about a sort of "problems database"? like a post with threads for each brand/size for comments like "the small diva was too long for me because i have a low cervix" or "the large lunette was too stiff for me because i'm sensitive". (only, more like a list for easier browsing: problem, why do you think you experienced it, what cup did you switch to)
makes it kinda easier to see what not to get or to see what others who have run into the same problem got.
i'm not sure what sort of problems to include though. all kinds of fitting problems, sure, but leaking/capacity? don't know.
or maybe even just an experiences database, so that people saw that whichever cup they're considering (unless a new'ish brand like misscup or cuplee) worked for many people as well.
does it make sense? i have too much time on my hands, lol:D

I think this is basically what our tag system is supposed to do. You can read posts by topic, or by brand. You can also search on both the brand and the topic by searching for posts tagged with both.

There's been another violation of the gender-neutral language rule here: http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2636577.html. The O.P. was warned by a member of the community but then did it again in a comment asking for more advice and proceeded to argue with the rule. Mods, sorry this rule has been causing you trouble, but I wanted to sincerely thank you for making and enforcing it.

I am very uneasy with the "Is internal menstrual protection unnatural and/or unhealthy?" post on June 7. I do agree with whoever said we that are most likely dealing with a youngster who posted the question. The people on the blog were rightfully "put-off" with the OP’s attitude. However, mod made the situation worse by posting on EVERY entry that was deemed "inappropriate." It looked as if someone was on a big power trip. I believe that the great majority of us here are adults. We have many teenagers who are interested in using cups that post quite a bit. We need to foster these questions no matter how they sound. These are kids who most likely do not understand social graces that come with time and maturity. But the older ones should have a handle on social decorum and act like it, especially the mod. One entry from the mod would have been enough. There was no reason to go though the entire thread and berate everyone who was judged to be inappropriate. The posters that stood up to the mod had the right to question her reaction regarding the way it was handled. The mod in my opinion took the high road with the situation, and shut down anything that confronted her. Not cool! I would have expected this behavior in high school. If you are going to implement that kind of action you need to be ready for others to ask WHY. Just because you have the “power” does not mean you do not have to justify what you have done. While I am able to forgive the youngster for her cheekiness, I am having problems justifying the mod’s actions. Some people need to be put in their place when making an “off” remark like the OP did. I saw nothing impolite about asking someone about Googling something. But I did find the Mod’s pointed “re-read your post” comment very ill-mannered. I like this board because everyone is for the most part helpful and kind. We cater to many different walks of life and cultures, and we have to be sensitive. Both sides were wrong as far as I am concerned, but I am more disappointed at how the mod handled this situation. I expected better and more kindness. However, one very good point was made “As the community rules state, you need to remain polite even if you think someone is being rude or trolling.” This should also go for the mods as I would have interpreted the “re-read your post” comment myself as condescending and rude.

There is a certain dismissiveness in saying "Oh, just Google it" without any other opinions or facts when someone asks a community for information, so without question I say that yes, saying "just Google it" is rude.

I see where you're coming from with the "re-read your post" thing (I don't think I would have worded it that way), but honestly, I also see where she's coming from. It's hard to explain *why* something is rude when it's so obvious (as it is to me).

As for going through the post and commenting to each person who said something off - that's just good moderation practice. Oftentimes people don't go back and read every comment in a post that they've commented on... but they do follow replies to their own comments. If you nip it in the bud the first time it happens with an individual, it's not likely to happen again, which means less work for us and a happier community all around.

And if any of the people in question do have concerns, they can voice them here, as you have! We just prefer to keep those sorts of meta-conversations out of the community because it doesn't add to the discussion that it exists for. (That's what this community exists for!)

I hope I've addressed your concerns - let us know if there's anything else you want to talk about.

I think this is a violation of the gender-neutral policy in the comments-

http://menstrual-cups.livejournal.com/2678350.html

sushilover314- "how long you [two] girls"

I wouldn't bother, but the same user never fixed a previous post that used "ladies" even though several mods told her about the policy.

I have reason to believe this user is using several accounts

I'm not sure if this is against the rules, but it strikes me as a way to get around the two-postings-per-week limitation.
I believe that these accounts belong to the same person:
summersmile15
simplify03
kiwismoothie3
itiswhatitis04
noelle05

And possibly sushilover314.

This is why I believe this: hirs questions are very similar in contents and wording to questions asked on Y!A recently, all from one and the same account.
http://answers.yahoo.com/activity/qa?show=MZ0Ior1qaa&link=question

Mods, do with it what you want (including nothing, if that's what you prefer) but I just thought it might be something you'd want to know about.

Thank you

Thank you, Mods, for your anti-troll efforts. My flist has been cluttered by frequent and off-sounding posts from this otherwise awesome community all week. I know what a pain in the neck it is for you all to moderate posting, and I just wanted to say it's very much appreciated. I've been a member of the community for years, posted twice, and I try to answer questions/give advice at least a few times a week. (I'm a Nonny today because I didn't want to catch trolls.) I haven't been very active of late because the questions are tiresome and the posts are so frequent. So thanks to the members who did the leg work on identifying the troll, and thank you all for dealing with moderated posting. =)

JuJu - New cup on the market

Hi
Thanks for the great forum - it is an amazing help for woman worldwide.

I have launched a new cup by the name of JuJu. It is manufactured in Australia and more details are on www.juju.com.au Please can I have this included in the list of cups available and please let me know if you require any additional information.

I would also like to send sample cups to the forum owner but can't seem to contact them at menstrual_cups@livejournal.com - please email me a physical address to send the 2 JuJu models to. My email is juju@juju.com.au

I have also tried to 'create an account' but am getting a 'varnish error 503 service unavailable' error?

Kind regards
Brenda

Re: JuJu - New cup on the market

I can't speak for the other mods, but I myself am not terribly comfortable receiving sample cups because I don't generally review them - I just do the housekeeping! There are some community members you might want to get in touch with, though - purple_obsidian (who runs http://ecomenses.com/) is an Aussie, and if you're selling to the US, melissa569 might also be a good fit.

As far as the account creation problems, those are out of our hands - you'll have to contact LJ Support. They've been under a DDoS attack of late, so the site's been having a lot of trouble, unfortunately.

Also, how excited am I to see an Australian TGA-approved cup available? SO EXCITED!
