Re-usable Insteads?

Hi,
I was just wondering if there is another alternative that works like Instead? Due to the heaviness of my period the other cups make me a lot more tender as I get pretty swollen. Also the other ones have leaked through the holes or shift and leak when I play sports and it's very hard to get to a bathroom in time. :( Please tell me someone had made a reusable version of Instead. I like instead a fair bit, but it isn't very environmentally friendly.

Posting more than twice a week?

Hi ladies
Is it ok to post comments more than twice a week? Does the twice a week rule only apply to new threads or does it apply to comments too? Thanks.

Comment all you like (within reason, of course)! The twice-a-week rule applies to new posts only.

Group living tag?

Hi,
I was thinking it might be useful to add a "group living" tag. Unless we already have something like that? We get a lot of people asking questions about how to change a cup in dorms, etc...

Re: Group living tag?

I put up a dorms tag - the friends & family tag has been used a lot for other group living situations, so I think that should cover it. :)

Selling tag?

Hi Ladies
Is there a tag for Selling a cup? I can't find one. If there is one I'd appreciate someone showing me where! Thanks.

I'm sorry, I know this is stupid, but I can't seem to find where I should click to start a new thread on the mainpage. I'm sure I'm just missing it, but could someone point it out to me? (I have used it before, but I can't remember.. sorry.)

Leak/Overflow with Heavy Cycle

Hello Ladies,

The Diva cup was my 1st cup of this type and I used it last month on vacation. I have a very, very heavy flow. I had 1 overflow problem(after 4 hours on my heavy day) and it was not much. I used a overnight pad during the day as habit and cause I was not sure about using the cup this 1st time.

For the small leak I found it helpful to go to the ladies room and release some suction of the cup and let it expel whatever was in there(at the full) till I got back to my Hotel and could fully remove, clean and reinsert. For the next 2 hours till I got back to the Hotel I was fine.

It was a little messy but I didn't feel ready to empty at this time. This was a technique I also used with the Instead cup. I gave up on those due to my heavy flow and that it would not stay put. Has anyone else tried this???

My cycle is about to start and I will see it this technique will work this time around. Good Luck Ladies and thanks for all the good advice.

Hi there,

Posts like this belong in menstrual_cups. This thread is for questions about the forum itself (like tag requests, questions about how to post, etc.).

Thanks!

Friends pages?

If somebody has added the menstrual cup community to their friends will they get our journal entries on their friends page automatically? I just looked at my friends page and my own journal entry has come up on it? I don't want my journal entries on cup users pages as it won't always be about cups. So I am seeing this because it's my own journal or is everybody whose a friend of the cup community seeing it on theirs? I hope you understand what I mean, I'm new to LJ and I find it really complicated compared to other forums. Sorry if this is rambling.

Re: Friends pages?

Nope...adding the community to your friends list does not place your personal entries on cup user's friend pages. Nor does it give members access to your posts that you label friends-only. When you write an entry, just make sure you are posting it in the right place by selecting either your own journal or a community from the drop-down box.
I don't see any personal entries on the menstrual_cup page, so all seems well. :)

Someone asked a question related to abortion and I think moon_magick78 is trying to start a debate: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1950603.html. She's also broken the 2 posts a week rule for the past 2 weeks at least, though at least one (in which she argued against the basic rules of the community) was deleted for being off-topic (not to mention that it also contained a drama-tastic "I hate you all and will never be a part of your horrible community again" sort of thing). It'd be cool if the mods defused this before it becomes something cruel to the O.P., who is by no means inviting drama.

Is it against the LJ rules for a minor to ask for people to send them mail? I mean, a self-proclaimed 15-year-old is asking people to send her things that have been in other peoples' vaginas. . . not to mention she's going to have to give out personal information like her address online. It sounds sketchy, and I wouldn't want the community (or the kid) to get in trouble for it. Here's the post: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1961757.html.

Moderators, femininewear always has a "signature" which contains links to her website. Does this count as advertising / spam that we wouldn't want in this community? I personally find it irritating and I'd prefer not having those links on her posts/comments.

I'm scared

Hi everyone. I am here looking for reassurance. I have a mooncup UK which I started using yesterday. I had no problem inserting it and think it's wonderful. I have been doing lots of research prior to get familiarised with the folds and insertion methods.

As I said, my period started yesterday and was so happy about wearing the cup overnight. Which I did. I woke up during the night with a strong need to urinate, but not much would come out. It was rather painful to pass urine (or rather uncomfortable), so I decided to take the cup out, and it allowed more urine to pass, but it was still a little sore.

This is the strange bit. Whilst I was sitting on the loo, I felt nauseous and suddenly, I passed out on the floor. My blood pressure suddenly lowered and I was sweating profusely, but my skin felt ice cold. I managed to get myself up on my feet and tried to go back to bed, but fainted again on the doorstep. I quickly gained consciousness and pulled myself up to bed. My boyfriend wakes up at this stage, but I didn't want to alarm him. I got in bed and I felt as if my heart rate was slowing down, my arms felt numb, my ears were ringing, and my head was about to explode. I was terrified. After a couple of minutes, these symptoms seemed to disappear and my heart rate , albeit slower than usual, felt more stable. I am so scared now, I have no idea what could've caused all this, I do not want to think it has anything to do with my cup being there overnight.

I woke up with a terrible headache and didn't go to work in the morning.

I don't know what to think, i cannot blame the cup for this, but I don't know what to think. Is there any remote chance that I have TSS?? I know that's associated with tampons and absorption, but the symptoms I observed, I have checked online and are very similar to those of TSS. I would really appreciate someone helping me out. I am thinking of ringing to Mooncup helpline and speak to a nurse now.

Thanks for listening and I would appreciate any input.

Tag suggestions

Hey there--I have a couple suggestions for tags related to topics that I've seen come up multiple times and seem to really worry the people who are posting about them, and so might benefit from having specific tags for related posts: vasovagal episodes and flow consistency.

"vasovagal episode" or "vagus nerve" as a tag probably wouldn't be too helpful since the people who experience problems with that wouldn't know what those referred to, but maybe a "Cup use and... fainting & lightheadedness" tag would be more direct

And there have been countless posts over the years from gals who looked in their cups the first few times around and really freaked out at whether the clotty mess they saw was normal or not. Having a "menstrual consistency" tag (or however you would word it) might help reassure them right off the bat, and would also be a good place to collect funny stories people have posted about their mishaps with stringy discharge, etc. :)

Hey mods,

This post and some comments are getting a bit argumentative, and an official mod presence and clarification of some rules is probably in order:

Deletion of whole post - why?

Hi mods,

I was wondering: My post about the urination device is gone entirely. Why is that? Was the link a problem (I can fully understand you not wanting users to post links, even mentioned the link removal not being a problem in the first entry to the post) or was the entire subject to much off-topic?

Thanks for an explanation,
strizzie

Re: Deletion of whole post - why?

As I said in a comment to the post before I deleted it (do you not receive your comments in your email?), the post is not about menstrual cups and therefore off-topic for the community. I made a copy of the post and its comments before I deleted it, and I would be happy to email it to you.

We'd love a link to it. What you'd probably want to do is post it to another webspace (or your personal journal) and then post a link to menstrual_cups. :)

i'd like to suggest a new tag: cleaning - sunlight

i remember searching this community a while back when i was researching cups, and stumbling upon this post: http://community.livejournal.com/menstrual_cups/1928444.html which talks about sunlight getting rid of smells.

now that i've got a cup and tried it for myself, i want to post about it! i think it's a successful enough method deserving of it's own tag. =)

Hi mods,

the tags don't work for me anymore :( I would've liked to link someone to a post of mine about cleaning the Lunette Selene, and I get an error message when I click on a tag. Is there anything you can do about it? That'd be cool, the tags really are helpful in the jungle of posts, heh.
Hope it works again soon :-)

Menstraul blood fertilizer

it would be nice to have a section on gardening with your cup blood. I used my girlfriends diva cup mixed with 2 gallons of water on my garden and experienced remarkable results. i was looking for more information on that. are there any dried products that incorporate that into there ingredients. is that even legal?

Hi innostrantsa,

You're right about tone being difficult to determine over the internet. However, it's always best be on the safe side. We don't want anyone to feel alienated.
"Facepalm" usually doesn't go over very well, so please refrain from directing that phrase towards a community member.

If you want to discuss the community rules further in a non-public setting, you're always welcome to email us at menstrual_cups@livejournal.com.

SheCup

Hey there gals, I changed my post about the lunette colored cup approval to include the SheCup review, to avoid posting more than twice that week after they sent me 2 samples. Just don't know if many people noticed though, as I made the change rather late... :( A few other ladies have sent me messages saying they got theirs too, I think even Teresa from Femininewear is getting it. So we can now count SheCup among the tried and owned ones :)
